I guess depending on your needs if Windows works well for your not buying a Mac is obviously the right choice. But if you need bare metal then yeah buying a cheap but decent Windows laptop like the Asus UX305 ($599 with discount on MS store) is a better bet at this point. VirtualBox seems to work good enough these days to run Windows VM.

I got tired of Apple never upgrading drivers and it was hard to force install third party driver upgrades that worked right. I myself got away from BootCamp and simply bought a cheap Windows PC to run Windows. In generally Apple does BootCamp for the enterprise user who likes Apple Mac's but needs Windows. Battery life, user experience with trackpad and features always take a marginal priority for Apple. Apple is not about making a competitive OS work that well. You'll never see BootCamp improve to a point that you would consider equal with OS X. I just wish the Boot Camp support was a lot better - no random BC process CPU usage spikes, Better trackpad experience and leaving the frigging VT-X enabled without having to go through hoops would be a good start. Yosemite was sluggish enough to be annoying - apps opening, on-screen drawing, task switching, keyboard input etc all feel much more quicker in El. I keep an USB3 SSD around to do things like install Firmware updates and try out new OS X releases.Įl Seems better in responsiveness department than Yosemite for sure.
